What most have failed to realize is that the iPhone isn't just a
smartphone that competes on features/speed with other smartphones, but
rather a MacOS delivery platform, capable of much more (minus "cutting
and pasting" of course). It's an even more effective Trojan Horse than
the iPod for pulling users into the MacOSX computing (and developing)
tent.

You gotta hand it to Steve and co. Perhaps only Microsoft realizes what
Cupertino's been cooking up and delivering via the iPhone and the iPod
Touch. This story is just beginning to unfold...

Kinda reminds me of all the 'the Blackberry is doomed' nonsense that
surrounded the release of the original iPhone. RIM actually increased
their share  of the smartphone market in the past year.
Maccies are good at predicting that the latest Apple gadget is going
to rule the world. They're equally good at slinking away quietly when
it doesn't happen.

Thing is, it isn't just "Maccies" who are saying this.www.readwriteweb.com/archives/iphone_personal_computer.php

Well, you get the idea...

There's always some articles to point to. It still never comes true.
And sorry but David Pogue is a Maccie on the level of Oxford. If
Apple released a dog turd with an Apple logo on it David Pogue would
write a column gushing on about how iDogTurd was indispensable to
modern life.
And as Dvorak has pointed out many times most of the people in the
press are Maccies.

Now you are becoming a caricature of yourself...

Dave learns a new word and rushes out to use as often as possible so
he will remember it.

Having been defeated,

Dave declares victory through proclamation.

Nope. Just by observing your reactions.

So you observed me sticking around and answering your absurdities as a
sign of defeat? One cannot help but have the phrase 'self-serving
analysis' spring to mind.

the Mayor decides to try insults.

You've got some pretty thin skin there, Dave.

Not at all. Just making an observation of your character. And, to be
honest, emulating your behavior...

So you 'emulated' my behavior by doing an action first? Do you know
what emulate means?

1) Its not really an insult so much as poking a bit of fun. It
certainly doesn't rise to the level of your obnoxious comment, which
brings us to:

Which obnoxious comment was that?

Playing coy doesn't suit you, Dave.

2) If you really don't want any return fire you shouldn't take shots
at people in the first place. If you think you're going to hurl
invectives my way and not get a 'Screw you too, Sparky' in return
you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Gee, Mayor, getting a bit hypocritical, aren't you?

Do you genuinely believe that you should be immune to return fire when
you insult people or are you being ironic?

You are the one who started the insult game.

So I was supposed to be take being called a caricature as a
compliment?

If you can't stand the heat, get out of
the kitchen.

Says the guy whining about getting back what he handed out.

You are always demanding evidence.

You're thinking of Alan 'I'll cry like a little girl until you give me
a URL but I'll never back up anything I say with one' Baker.

And, not content to try to insult me, he decides to go after his
favorite target, with his usual insult.

You falsely described me and I provided a person your description does
fit. My statement is an accurate description of his MO. It's not my
fault it's insulting.

Yet, the only one who keeps bringing that up is you. Why is that?

Please. I don't read that many posts in this group anymore and I see
Alan getting grief for this all the time. Maybe if you looked at this
group with your eyes open...

Now, when I have provided ample
evidence to support my position,

Actually what your position is isn't entirely clear. Is it that
there's a gushing of praise for a new Apple product? If so I ask -
What else is new?

It is that *many* observers

I'm not sure that less than half a dozen rises to the level of 'many'.
And as I pointed out earlier many of them breathlessly pant over
anything Apple releases.

I did a quick Google search and came up with about half a dozen
observers who all said the same thing.

Oh, well! Its a solid half dozen, is it? That changes everything.

You have provided exactly
nothing but insults and assertions. I think you are losing badly here,
Mayor.

Says the guy denying reality.

of the computer/smartphone marketplace
think the iPhone may be marking out new territory. That it may be a
new computing platform.

Which is where the whole thing falls apart. The iPhone doesn't do
anything that other devices have done for years except sport an Apple
logo.

Obviously, other people who seem to know more about the marketplace
disagree with you. And yet, the only thing you can provide is more
assertions. Why is that?

These are the same 'experts' that asserted the original iPhone was
going to destroy the Blackberry. RIM's marketshare actually rose in
the last year. Now they're backing with the same old 'time to die
Blackberry' line and have expanded it to the PSP and other devices as
well.
I can't help but notice that Maccies don't have much trouble
dismissing 'experts' when they don't have glowing reviews of Apple
products or practices but cling to them tightly and insist that they
must be deferred to when they say positive things about Apple.
I wonder why that is? 8)

As I pointed out before this always happens. The flat panel iMac had
the cover of Time along with a gushing article predicting everyone
would have one within a year or two. Guess what? Most people don't.

Now, you will provide evidence that Time said "everyone will have one
in a year or two"...

Go read the article for yourself. If you're not going to maintain a
basic level of knowledge on the subject don't expect me to do it for
you.

OK, you can't provide anything to back up your assertion. Why do you
bother?

I'm not going to back up what should be common knowledge for anyone
talking about the matter.

you try to blow it off with "They're
all Maccies (even if they don't know it)"

They know it. They're not even bothering to try and hide it. Its you
who can't seem to figure it out. As I said before, if your position is
that there's a bunch of overenthusiastic hyping of a new Apple product
going on the press then we agree.

Poor Mayor.  He can't stand it that some people think Apple may have a
hit on their hands, so he has to bitch about how "everyone in the
press loves Apple".

Poor Dave. He's so caught up in a bitter persecution complex over
being an Apple user that he takes great umbrage when people accurately
point out that not only is his tempore naked this time his tempore has
been stark naked every other time his finery was gushed over.

I don't feel persecuted, Mayor.

The rest of your post screams otherwise.

I am happily enjoying myself, pointing
out that you are making assertions and can't back them up. Perhaps you
should start using your description of Alan to describe yourself...

I don't play the Alan Baker Prove It Game *. I don't demand proof of
things that are basic to the argument. I don't demand proof of that
proof, ad infinitum until we get to the point where it would require
God Almighty Himself to descend from Heaven and declare something to
be true and when that doesn't happen declare that nothing has been
proven like Alan does on a regular basis. I also don't assert that me
stating something makes it true by definition and that no further
proof is neccesary like Alan does on a regualr basis. So your
assertion is not only silly its factually inaccurate...not that this
is a priority of yours.

My point is that this always happens when Steve Jobs pushes something
out on the front porch; the predictions never come true and they won't
this time either.

Sure, Mayor. I believe you (actually, I don't)

Deny reality all you want, Dave. It only serves to highlight just how
far over the edge you are on the subject.

And, again, the Mayor tries insults instead of substance. Is that all
you've got?

When most realize that the truth about themselves is insulting it
motivates them to change. In Dave's case it motivates him to shove
fingers in his ears a little deeper and scream 'I can't hear you!' a
little louder.

Nice try, but it ain't gonna work, Mayor.

I've never tried to make you, or anyone else in here, see reality.

Of course not, since you are rather divorced from it yourself, as this
thread has amply demonstrated.

You already replied to this with essentially the same reply. They have
treatments for Alzheimer's now, Dave. 8)

Of course not, since you appear to be pretty far from seeing reality
yourself. Not as far from reality as Muahman or Snit ,but you seem to
be pretty far from it at times.

Says the guy denying that any Apple product has ever been gushed over
in the press before and then not lived up to the hype.

Now, you will point out where I said that,

If you can't scroll up a few lines don't expect me to do it for you.

right. Oh, I forgot to whom I am speaking.

Thast's ok. I like it when the little people forget their place and
get all assertive. 8)

Do you even know which way reality lies in anymore on this subject,
Dave?

Yup, I do. Too bad you don't, as this thread amply demonstrates, since
the only thing you have done is throw insults and make assertions that
you refuse to back up.

Tell you what, Dave. I'm going to put this post in my calender exactly
one year from now. At that time we'll revisit it and see just how
accurate your heroes were.

[snip of crap]

Just because you decide to remove the final paragraph from your reply
doesn't mean you need to announce it. 8)
