Re: This is getting really stupid

FWIW, there's two surefire ways to get rid of a troll.

The first is to starve them of any attention.

I was the first to suggest this with Snit... and virtually no one
listened... and I'm pretty sure they still aren't open to this first way.
So be it.

It takes awhile for people to finally become convinced that the
individual really is a dedicated troll, and not simply a flaming
***, and then awhile longer to put it into place.

There's usually a "weaning" period too, since the Troll has usually
been successful in getting under people's skin. A sure sign of this
stage is when posters' names constantly show up in post's titles - -
its a sign of someone who the troll believes that he currently has
beaten, and his pushing his buttons.

...and if such threads don't immediately die from being ignored, the
troll is not only right, but he has been rewarded by receiving
attention.

Thus denied, they will
spiral down, debasing themselves to the Nth degree for the reward of a
reply ... any reply, no matter how devastating it is ... for all they
want is to receive the reward of attention, for that is an
acknowledgment of their miserable existence.  They raise themselves up
merely by putting down others, so they will shout louder and louder
for attention, with name calling, and ever-increasingly bigger lies,
which progressively discredits everything that they have ever
said...even the good stuff that they might have once contributed.

There is no rehabilitation; they're incapable of change because their
frail ego tells them to believe that they are superior than others,
who they will call morons, losers, liars, etc, which are actually
confessions.  This behavior will persist until their death, unless
their family chooses to intercede and literally take their computer
away from them.  Even then, they'll try to "sneak a fix" at Internet
Kiosks, etc, as it has all become an addition that has clearly gotten
the better of them.

Online, they'll be remembered as a 'kook' for a few brief years (at
most) before their existence is essentially  forgotten, for the
reality is that they merely tore down what others had built up, and
didn't build anything of their own.

Wow... you're deep;)

Unfortunately, lost a friend to this 'Troll' disease and had a lot of
time to think about it. After he no longer had a full time job (sound
familiar?), he had no other way of trying to validate his self-worth
and Dr. Jekyll became Mr. Hyde.
This spiraled downward for years and en route, he literally wrecked
several newsgroups, two of which never recovered.

So what's the second way?

Drop me a note offline and I'll explain it again more clearly.

BTW, another sign that the troll has taken a mental bender off the
deep end is their increasing use of Copy & Paste of the same exact
long "attacks". This is clearly lame and pathetic; if you're going to
feed the Troll, at least make him have to go through the hassle of
writing new material each time to 'earn his bread'.
