In what universe 'cause it sure ain't this one.
Not in yours, clearly.
and on the whole tend to be
well-built. All in all you have at least as good a chance of not
getting
ripped off by them as anyone else.
You are talking about a company that charges $400 for RAM that you can
get anywhere else for $100.
Yeah, and that's what I do. They obviously don't like selling RAM. Maybe
the young SJ had a bad experience in a RAM shop once?
When you add in the OS it makes the
choice much easier. By eliminating all the other manufacturers my
purchasing decisions are an order of magnitude easier, and until the
rest have a decent OS to sell with their machines it will stay that
way.

Choice is 'scary' isn't it, Andy? Its much better to throw up a set of
irrational and artificial criteria that leave only one item possible
than to face having to make a decision, isn't it?
Choice is not scary, but deceptive obscuration of details can make
choice a difficult and time-consuming thing. Instead of making a
difficult choice where I have to wring information I need from the sales
people who desperately don't want to give it to me (or often don't even
know) I just made the broad choice once. Example, one of the many parts
people keep going on about is video cards. Rather than take someone's
word, I would have to read a lot about video cards and keep up to date.
Knowing all the specs on a component is not much use unless you
understand what they mean in the contexts of your own needs. Having
chosen my video card I'd then need to find a machine with that card and
go through the same process with the CPU and other components. the only
sensible thing to do in that situation was to build my own machine. I
considered that route, but fortunately the office I was working in had a
mac, and I was taught the basics by someone who knew them well.
Multiply that effort by the number of different components and you have
a huge amount of 'choice', but for that choice to be any use to me I'd
need to understand all the specs and keep up to date. My use of macs has
served me well for about 20 years. I think I made a good choice. No
doubt I could have saved a little money but the time and effort that
would have taken would not have been worth it.
This is not true for other people, I understand that. And seeing as MS
no longer really threatens the future existence of computers I can work
with, I no longer really care what others buy.
"choice" is not permitted in fanatical Christian societies. Look at the
millions of people they murdered simply because they worshiped a
different
God of choice.
Compared to the 150 million killed by atheists in less than a century
the few million killed by Christians over 20 centuries pales in
comparison.
I love this. The old, "two wrongs make a right" defence. BRAVISIMO!!!
