Availability of USB in Win95 by Release & File Date

Release Version File Date Retail 4.00.950 7/11/95
Retail SP1 4.00.950A 7/11/95
OEM Service Release 1 4.00.950A 7/11/95
OEM Service Release 2 4.00.1111 (4.00.950B) 8/24/96

As per:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_95

...USB support didn't exist in OEM SR2 (4.00.1111). You needed the
2.1 release, which is 4.00.950B (4.03.1212).

OEM SR2 (Version 4.00.1111) is not (4.00.950B). It is (4.00.950A).

I found a chart at Microsoft that confirms what you say, though the dates of both versions are the same, 08/24/96.

But it could have been the 35th and still
been TWO YEARS before the iMac came out.

Yes, MS gets a phyrric victory.

Its a phyrric victory because it was very limited capability that was
severely hamstrung and reliant on third party device-specific drivers
that ended up taking Microsoft ANOTHER FIVE YEARS to finally get
working correctly, in XP.

Device drivers are still created by 3rd parties today for Windows. Sure, 20,000 or so are included on the Vista DVD, but the Windows world has always worked that way. Even a mouse from Logitech or Microsoft comes with a disc.

As such, the way that most Windows95 users got any
USB support was by buying a new Win95 PC when it was already known
that Win98 was "soon come", as few were particularly likely to
discover the first retail release, which shipped in the MSDN
"Professional Edition CD 1", which was dated November 1996 (it shipped
later), let alone actually pay for it.

Any new PC should have had it soon after the OEM SR2 release of
8/24/96. TWO YEARS before the iMac was introduced.

Cough: November 1996 for 2.1 ...

The Microsoft site shows 8/24/96.

I'll take their data over Wikipedia.

Which shows just how retarded you really are.
