SNIP

Nobody CARES what you buy.

Who died and made you god?

God doesn't care what you buy either.

Now you speak for God, in addition to Apple and all other Mac
Advocates?

Does Steve Jobs and the Pope know about you?

Why didn't you respond to this?

Because it doesn't rate a response. Obviously, when I said that God
doesn't
care, I was being sarcastic. How could I not have been?

You already were speaking for Apple, Mac Advocates, and by saying "nobody
cares," every human alive. Why is it obvious you wouldn't speak for God as
well?

Since "God" doesn't exist, its a moot point.

It's not just simply that you don't believe in God, you've settled the issue for all the rest of us as well? It's understandable why you don't believe in Him. Doing so would mean acknowledging your opinions aren't the ultimate source of Truth and Knowledge in the Universe! :-D

You don't like the Mac?

When did I say I don't like it?

In every post you've written.

Then it ought to be easy for you to point out, yet you failed to do
so.

Why didn't you respond to this?

Still no response?

Because the advantages of Mac OSX over Windows can be found all over the
internet. Go to any computer magazine site - ANY, read their reviews of
Leopard, watch as they contrast Leopard and Vista, and you will easily see
SOME of the reasons why OSX is better - because all of the pundits agree
IT
IS BETTER in almost every way. But to comprehensively compare the two
would
require a book, and I'm disinclined to even repeat the reasons here, much
less write a book about it. Put it down to my innate laziness, but I'm not
about to do your research for you. You want to know why Mac is better?
There's this thing called Google...

How does any of that support your claim that I wrote in every post I made
that I don't like the Mac? Perhaps you ought to read the questions before
you respond to them?

That's not what I'm responding to, and you know it.

Yes, I know it, that's why I suggested that you read the questions you're answering before you respond to them.

I'm responding to your
endless question: "Tell me what's so good about the Mac that I should pay
twice as much for half as much hardware."

Why did you choose to respond to that question where you were asked "How does any of that support your claim that I wrote in every post I made that I don't like the Mac?"

You think its too expensive?

I know I paid half the price for my PC than Apple wants for a Mac,
yet
I
got
lots more stuff.

Gee, you can buy a whole apartment full of furniture at Ikea for
the
same
price as a decent sideboard from Ethan Allen too, but all that says
is
that
Ikea stuff is junk and you get what you pay for.

My computer isn't junk, it's just as good as what Apple is selling,
or
better, so your analogy doesn't apply here.

See, that's where you are wrong. It isn't as good as what Apple is
selling.

Right, it's BETTER than what Apple is selling. Its twice the hardware
for
half of Apple's price.

It can't be bought with OSX.

That doesn't make Apple's hardware better.

I.E. It's not as good as what Apple is selling
because Windows isn't as good as OSX.

You have yet to give me a reason to pay twice as much for half the
hardware,
other than you like Mac OS, and something about trying to get old
versions
of Word to understand output from newer versions.

Why didn't you respond to this?

It should be obvious. If you want the best computer experience, you buy a
Mac.

It's not obvious at all. You expect me to take your word, and Google for
myself.

The fact that you don't get as much for your money is a question of
comparing quantity to quality. That's the point you missed in the Ikea to
Ethan Allen comparison.

I didn't miss that at all.

If Ikea furniture and Ethan Allen furniture were the
same quality, then yes, one would be a fool to buy the Ethan Allen brand.
This is possibly an extreme example, but it illustrates my point
perfectly.

If the hardware I bought was of lesser quality, that would have illustrated
your point.
But it's not. It's high quality hardware from the number one PC maker.

Sorry. It's not.

So you're taking back what you admitted about the Mac Mini?

Just about every computer magazine and
computer expert in the world has acknowledged that.

Even if that were true, it doesn't support your extreme viewpoints.

It is true. Look for yourself.

I have looked. Before I even started posting here.

Well, there are lots of alternatives
available for cheapskates like you.

The fact I didn't let Apple screw me doesn't make me a cheapskate.

The fact that you think Apple is "screwing people" is what makes you
a
cheapskate.

No it doesn't.

In fact, you can occasionally find
loss-leader Winboxes for under $300.

What has that got to do with this discussion?

You must have missed that one.

Why didn't you respond to this?

Why? It's obvious that ou seem to think price is all important.

That's an obviously false statement. I showed I got lots more hardware,
lots more features, not just that I paid less for my computer.

No reply?

If that's what you want, go for it. But
what we want is Mac OSX, because Vista, XP, Win 2k, ME SE Win98,
whatever,
simply are not very good in our estimation. We don't want to use
them
and
will pay extra to be able to use OSX. I simply cannot give you an
answer
any
clearer than that.

Your clear answer says absolutely nothing.

It speaks volumes, you just can't hear it.

Your statement that you, and others you're speaking for, don't like
Windows,
and want Mac OSX, says nothing to address the issue of why one should
pay
twice the price for less than half the hardware.

BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU CA GET OSX.

What made you think using all capitals gave me a reason to pay twice
the
price for half the hardware?

I was hoping maybe it would make you understand

You thought that shouting would bring understanding even though you just
repeated yourself?

Well, no matter how often I repeat myself, or how I try to explain that
running Windows negates whatever advantage you think that you are getting

You have yet to explain this. So far all you've done is to proclaim and
to repeat your proclamations, and then finally tell me the explanation is
too involved for you to give, Google it from somebody else.

when you buy a computer that gives you more hardware (and trial-ware) than
when you buy a Mac Mini,

My first post lists the nice bundle of software that came with my PC.

You missed this.

you still manage to not understand. The hardware
means nothing, the OS and software means EVERYTHING.

That's an extreme over-simplification.

No disagreement?

THAT'S the reason for paying
"twice as much" - because you can't run OSX easily, any other way.

You don't need to keep repeating that. You need to tell me why I
should
pay twice as much for half the hardware so I can run OSX.

Because OSX is so much better than Windows that buying a Mac just so you
can
run OSX is worth the expenditure.

If that were true you surely would have been able to produce the
overwhelming reason why it is true.

Cat's got your tongue?

BTW, I agree that the Mac Mini is too
expensive for what they give you by twice, but then I would NEVER buy a
Mac
Mini.

Why didn't you just say this from the start, instead of going down a long
path of calling me a cheapskate, disparaging my character, telling me nobody
cares what I buy, etc?

No answer?

Example: Friday some friends of mine decided that they wanted a new
Mac. I went on the Apple store web site (while at their home) and chose
the
most expensive Mini at $799. I upgraded the 1 Gig of memory to 2 (not
enough
but it was the only option) and the HDD from 120 Gig (WAY too small) to
160
Gig (still to small) and by the time I added a keyboard and mouse, the
price
was within a few bucks ($1050) of the 20" iMac ! The IMac came with a 250
Gig
HDD, a beautiful, big cinema screen, a keyboard, a mouse and much better
graphics with 128 meg of dedicated VRAM instead of the Mini's shared
memory
for $1199. That is very competitive with BRAND NAME Windows boxes, and a
better deal than the Mini.

My HP PC overmatches many of the $1199 iMac's features, yet cost me $590
with a very nice 19" LCD monitor included.

Yesterday, they went out and bought that iMac.
They got the wireless mouse an wireless keyboard, and bought Apple Care
(wise) and the whole package cost them about $1500, but what a machine!
It's
gorgeously made, the screen is a knock-out, it comes with a high res "web
cam" and microphone built-in, and Apple takes you through the set-up on
first boot and even pairs the Blue-tooth keyboard and mouse for you
automatically!. It even helps one to transfer stuff from one's old
computer
to one's new computer simply by connecting the two computers together with
a
firewire cable and booting the old computer while holding down the letter
"T"
. The old computer comes up as a HDD volume on the new Mac's desktop and
the
new machine automatically goes and gets all the preferences, the E-mail
settings, your archived e-mails, and all of network info from the old
computer and applies it to the new one, then it prompts you through moving
everything else. What a pleasure! That alone is worth the money -
especially
to the average user, although a power user like me appreciates it as well.

That's all great stuff, but it either falls under the category of stuff my
cheaper PC will do, or of stuff I wouldn't pay $900 more to get.

No answer?

I value
OSX. I do not value Windows. I do not want to run Windows (if I can help
it).
Therefore, I buy Macs.

Repeating your preferences does not give anybody else a reason to pay
twice
as much for half the hardware.

What you buy is of little interest.

Because you're the guy who the world revolves around?

No, because You are addressing ME and I'm just telling you that I don't
NEED
to convince you of anything because It's no skin off my nose what you buy.
I
came to this thread to answer your question, but you don't like the answer
even though it is THE ANSWER.

You've been trumpting your preferences while telling me nobody cares what I
buy. That's saying the world revolves around you.

No response?

Like I said
before, I don't care what you buy.

Then why are you here ranting at me?

See above.

What for?

But if you wanted OSX you would have to
pay Apple's prices to get a machine that would run it.

Why should I want it?

I think it's worth every penny.

So what? Why should I care what you buy? All you can tell me is it's
like your favorite ketchup. That's not how I pick out a computer.

Nor I. I pick the BEST. Macs are the best (but the Mini is way overpriced,
I'll give you that).

Why couldn't have you given me that from the start, instead of taking us
down this long, rocky road?

Still no answer for this?

You do have one valid point: Apple does not make a Mac model
which
is
comparable to cheap mini-tower Windows PCs.

Actually my point was I got more hardware for half of Apple's
price.

That's the same thing. If you bought a Winbox that was configured with the
same hardware as a Mini, it would cost about half what the Mini costs.

No, I got lots more hardware for half the price of the Mac Mini, not the
same hardware for half the price.

No response?

My PC has twice the VRAM, twice the RAM, four times the HD, more connectors,
and lots of other hardware the Mac Mini doesn't even have, to say nothing of
the expandability the Mac Mini doesn't have at all.

My PC can expand to 4 GB. Mac Mini tops out at 2 GB, and it's a SOB to put
your own RAM in. My PC has both a VGA connector and a DVI connector.
It's adapter time if you want VGA out on the Mini.

I have a 15-in-1 media reader, a pocket drive slot, LightScribe, it just
goes on and on.

Going up to the $1199 iMac doesn't match most of those either.

Nothing to say, George?

And an operating system that is, frankly, junk.

I like Vista a lot. It's great.

So, you like junk! Now that we've established that, what next?

Is that supposed to be a joke?

No, Microsoft, who took six years and spent untold billions to deliver an
OS
as poor as Vista is the joke here.

I'm sitting at a Vista machine now, and not finding the experience poor in
any way.

Obviously because you don't know any better. A man who has never driven a
Ferrari wouldn't see why it's better than a Dodge Neon either. Someone who
had only used a computer running DOS wouldn't see the advantages of Windows
over DOS either.

Why are you unable to describe any of these vast differences, without resorting to talking about cars or ketchup, seeing how you claim to have used both systems?

[snip of lots of stuff you ignored anyway]

Check it out for yourself. I'm wagering that you'll find that I'm right.

How could the guy who disposed of the Almighty be anything but right? :-D
