You need to tell me why I should
pay twice as much for half the hardware so I can run OSX.

Not just why but how? Offer Apple more money than they are asking for?

By purchasing an $800 Mac Mini instead of the $400 HP PC I bought.

Ah, so Apple does not serve the low end as well... *that* is your
observation. OK.

Seems weird to do so - I know I didn't when I purchases my Mac.

I agree your mistaken idea is indeed weird. :-D

I made no mistake in purchasing my computer.

Also keep in mind that a computer without software is pretty much useless -
if you are a Linux user and get your software for free then the idea of
looking at just hardware prices might have some merit... though there are
other questions there.

Did you think it made your answer more impressive to pad it with unneccessary
words?

Your dodge is noted.

If you are a Windows user then you *also* likely have non-free software you
would need to use.

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

And yet you missed it when you talked about hardware only.

Then there is looking at the cost of running and maintaining the machine,
both in terms of dollars and time.

Are you trying to say the Mac Mini would use less electricity?

I am "trying" to say what I did say. Your lack of understanding is your own
issue.

The Mac serves my needs better than any other machine at the same price - so
that is what I purchase. If you find a different answer for your personal
situation then so be it...

Well, duh!

I can't see one reason why you even bothered to write your reply.

I accept your lack of understanding.
