the licensing costs is avoided using xServes- NOT the client macs.
SFW is that's what i said, and ALL i said, FROM THE BEGINNING but you
keep arguing i'm wrong. sheesh.
Sheesh is right, but you're wrong.
holy crap jim, you can't be this dumb. see below (AND READ IT) before
you reply.

AWC will not paying licensing fees for the client boxes either since
VIPS is running in JAVA 6.0 or higher natively on the Macs. This will
take 12-18 months and in the meantime they're using XP with Parallels
but that will drop away.
"But function by function, AWC will rewrite all VIPS client software in
Java 6.0 or higher so it can run at the front end on Apple Macs. VIPS
currently runs client software on Windows XP, which AWC will not upgrade
to the newer Vista operating system."
In the end, when the transition is complete, there will be no client
licenses for Windows.
yes jim, THAT'S WHAT I SAID, and it applies EVEN IF they stick with
windows. and when I SAID IT, you made some dumb comment - "You're
presuming they want to spend the bucks to rewrite in Java, which might
be just as expensive for them. You're also presuming Java is THE way,"
to which i replied "uh, dude, did you read the article?- that's a big
part of what they
ARE doing."
you are amazingly obtuse
I misspoke about the Java, but I am right on licensing. When finished,
there will be no licensing to M$, when the SQL servers are replaced and
all the clients are Macs running the native VIPS app.
No licensing fees to M$ as they outlined, and on a yearly basis, is a
BIG DEAL and will save a bundle.

The problem appears to to be yours ed and not theirs and the
problems
are not do to technology, hardware or costs but due to folks
like
you
who would trumpet the Microsoft Hegeonomy.
no jim, the problem is you have no idea what's going on. :D
You're the one having the heartburn over the AWC switch,
no, i'm not jim. i'm simply amazed at the lengths you go to defend
anything and everything apple, and everything vaguely related to
apple. (yes, that's a bit of hyperbole, but not a whole lot).
not me bubba.
Like I said, get past it, you'll feel a lot better.
i just got a macbook last saturday- what makes you think i have to get
past anything apple, that i dislike macs / appke, or that i trumpet
any sort of ms hegemony? did you get new vista computer yet jim? :P
Nice that you purchased a MacBook, but four days hardly qualifies you as
any kind of expert. No, I didn't get a Vista box and won't. I have no
compelling reason to get something more than the XP one I have along
with the old Solaris machine and the Linux server. Along the way I've
had 16+ Macs since 1987 and two Windows boxes.
