I didn't know that. Been an OSX user for almost 7 years and never even
thought about that green button. Whaddya know? They still ought to make the
window resizable by grabbing any edge, but thanks for the fix!

It is not a "fix", it is standard behavior... and has been essentially the
same since at least Mac System 7... here is a screenshot:

No, that is *not* a screenshot of System 7.

Oh my... you are right. Look at the menus... not even close. Eek. My
mistake.

System 7 didn't even come with Platinum and I don't think it was available as
an addon for anything below 7.5.5. That screenshot you're trying to pass off
as a System 7 screenshot is a Windows XP skin. (For the record, I'm not sure
why you'd *want* XP skinned with Platinum. Platinum looks its age.)

Here are screenshots of System 7.x:

When I talked about Apple moving the icons to the "other" side I was wrong.
Been a while since I used Classic Mac. :)

The close was always on the left... so that makes sense. The resize / zoom
was on the right, but since they added a minimize it made sense to put them
all together.

The close has always been close... the minimize used to be window shade...
and the middle button has been "Zoom" since at least then.

Perhaps you've forgotten what Mac OS 9 looked like.

Close is in the same spot as on OS X. Also, there's no "Zoom"
button. It's a maximize button. If you're not sure about the
difference, I'll enlighten you: Maximize is useful because it allows
your window to take up the entire screen, while "Zoom" is useless
except to get around Apple's window resizing issues.

In the screenshots you show the second button to the right toggled resizing
the window to an "intelligent" size and maximizing.

Except for bugs like that, I have yet to find a useful purpose for the zoom
button.

Sizing windows to hold just what they are showing.

Perhaps I will become enlightened and find a use for it someday, but so far
I've been able to live without touching it. I know this has come up in the
past and that a bunch of OS X people will jump to Apple's defense pointing out
that their design specs specifically say that the "zoom" button shouldn't fill
the screen, but that's my point - I *like* to be able to fill the screen
easily if I want. I'd rather have that than a button that changes windows to
a seemingly arbitrary pre-defined size.

At the very least make Option-Zoom be maximize. I agree.

With OS X they just moved the buttons to the other side (not sure why) and
changed the look... and, as mentioned, changed the "minimize" action.

And they changed maximize to zoom.

Always had the zoom... but it toggled with maximize.
