You could be right about that although I think they'd rather protect
their own file formats and come up with a windows only version of .pdf

It's called choice. Mactards are unfamiliar with this concept. Just using

That's a silly statement. Most of us choose Macs over windows, many of
us use windows every day but still prefer Macs.
