Ever hear of Neo Office or Open Office, Alky? Both are open source
office suites for the Mac.

A 450 MHz G4 running OS X 10.4.11
to be fair, corporations/institutions that can afford large scale
deployment of Macs will most likely provide free copy of MS office to
their employees/student/faculty/staffs. And given the fact that MS
office is the de facto standard, I would use MS office as opposed to
neo/open office. (I'm using it right now)
Aside form the fact that MS Office is the world's "de-facto" standard, I find
NeoOffice to be pretty equivalent to the MS flavor for 90% of everyone's
needs.
