I usually never run v.1 of anything but I have to say that this OS is
pretty
damn nice. You don't notice many of the newest things right away but
start
to
see them as you begin to kick the tires a little harder. The worst news
so
far
for me... I have older versions of Photoshop and ImageReady (v.7.x) that
don't
work under Leopard. Luckily I have Adobe's CS3 suite (but I only have 2
seats)
and all the apps seem to run fine so far. Google Earth (v 4.1.7076.4458)
didn't run so I downloaded v 4.2 and it works great. My older version of
Wake
on Lan didn't work but v0.9 does... though, like the older version I was
using, it still won't put a computer to sleep remotely. When I hit the
"Post"
button on this post this version of MT Newswatcher (3.5.2) will probably
lock
up again... but the post will be sent.
I've been hearing people say it and I have to agree... Leopard is
definitely
snappier than Tiger. I'm going to hold off on putting it on my mission
critical tower for now, but it's tempting because that's the computer
where
I
would find myself using things like Spaces the most. My youngest son has
a
1.6
GHz G5 tower with 2 drives that I installed Leopard on... he wasn't using
the
2nd drive so I configured it with Time Machine. This is a no-brainer
IMO...
it's far and away the best implementation of backup software I've seen
for
people that avoid such things. My youngest really likes the new iChat
features, especially the ability to control someone's computer remotely
(I
can
see where this would come in handy). There are so many changes sprinkled
around I have yet to check most of them out but if what I have seen thus
far
is any indication I'm sure I won't be disappointed... but I am left
wondering
where the firewall interface went.
I just got my copy yesterday but am waiting until I have a few days to get
things going just in case there are any problems. From what I have read I
expect no real problems - though I am not enthralled with the idea of
Stacks
on the dock. Maybe once I use them I will not mind them.
Not even sure I would have gotten Leopard *now* had it not been for Apple
letting me get the Up-To-Date price. I was planning on waiting for the
semester break - though now that I have it I likely will install it before
then... the risk seems pretty small.
So much for your claim, rather LIE, that you weren't reading Steve Caroll's
post.
This is the same lie he's been telling for years.
