Then if Vista is selling 12 million copies a month, how is it a
failure?
First, I have not said it is, but let's look at some variables as to how
one
could decide:
* What was the expected sales rate? How does the 12 million compare?
Any product that is selling 12 million units a month can not be
considered a "failure". Sure, expectations might have been higher, but
then the expectations might just have been unreasonable.
Look, I'm not here to defend MS or Vista. I'm just defending common
sense. Vista is approaching 10% installed base, against *very* good
competition (XP) after 9 months. Nearly all of these sales are to
consumers/early adopters/enthusiasts. There are virtually no
corporate sales yet - it's way too early for that.
Once the corporate roll outs happen, Vista will surpass XP in a couple
of years. Remember, it took XP 2+ years to overtake 98(!!), and 98
was way inferior competition! Plus the market is also 6 years larger
and more mature. You simply don't transition a billion machines (or
whatever - figure admittedly pulled right out of my ass!) overnight.
Then again, Vista may never surpass XP. 2000 never got more than
around 25% before XP was released. Many people/companies skipped 2000
and stayed with 98. When XP came along, they were MORE than ready to
switch. Perhaps the same thing will happen Vista and the next version
of Windows.
Does that mean 2000 was a failure? Hardly. Many OS X users skipped
10.3 and waited for 10.4, or skipped 10.4 and are waiting for 10.5.
Same thing.

Vista is a failure because the Mactards wish it to be so and say it is!!!
Where have you been?
The Mactards hate MSFT because they HAVE TO USE it on daily basis. Every
single Mactard also owns a Windows box to do the hundreds, yea thousands of
tasks that cannot be accomplished on a Mac or because their employer knowing
better than them, uses Windows like the rest of planet earth. I think it
bugs them that they chose the BetaMax of computers.
my Mac... excellent!
