Edwin, that isn't the same thing. That is changing an old computer, vs.
putting an OEM copy of Windows on a brand new computer. One will be
allowed (as you have shown), while the second won't, AFAICT.

How did the people at MS know I just changed the MB instead of transfer
to a whole new computer?

Because the activation software checks your configuration. That's why
it protests when "too much" has changed.

And then MS gave me the activation code anyway. Was I typing too fast for
you to keep up?

No, its merely an example of getting off on a speeding ticket, as was
mentioned:

MS might not "care" all the time, but they do have the data...

Of course, you promised MS that your "old" system was deconstructed,
with no possible chance of duplication of the licence, all because a
PC case and RAM is sooooo invaluable. Where is it today? :-)

Actually Microsoft allows you to install on totally new HW every six
months with no questions asked. They do this because activation was
never about catching the home user who puts the same copy on two or
three machines. It was always about thwarting the mass pirates. This is
such common knowledge that I'm surprised the Great -hh, who simply
knows everything, just ask him, didn't know it.
