Re: What does Microsoft have that they can build on?

supposed to have been that great)...........or a combination of both.

Steve de Mena ruminated about what is wrong with Microsoft's leadership
and management, and it got me wondering what people thought Microsoft
should be working on.

Do you think there is a product line that Microsoft can develop to
bring back their talent and reputation?

What I'm asking is not just 'can Microsoft recover,' but do they have
something that could be their next big thing?

did they ever have "a big thing"?, i searched my records and nothing
came up. Their whole company is based on stealing software code/ideas
from others. But even with that, the bloated management and Ballmer soon
to be fully in charge, basically means you'll have nothing but a company
feeding off the old IBM carcass for a few more decades, then they'll
shut their doors.

Apple did this by aiming itself toward a market that the industry had
ignored: home media and consumer interests, like with iPhoto and
iMovie. The iPod was a huge advantage in being seen that way. The
development of digital cameras (which Apple helped in) is probably as
important.

Yes, but Microsoft never has been good at the "vision" thing, I can't
think of a single thing they have contributed to the market in their
corporate life time, can you? They should of stolen Google's brains,
concepts with MSN, but that went no where and that is simply another
money losing "vision" for them.

So what do you think Microsoft can build up?

Perhaps get into investment banking? or using their ill-begotten cash to
fund real estate purchases? But as far as code and computing, they are
pretty much dead. Sure, they could try and lay off 100,000 people and
get back to basics of "stealing" code. But I think they are too old,
lazy and rich to do that anymore.
