In my first column of 2007, I offered some tips about what to do when
you set up a new PC. Back then, computers came with Windows XP on them.

But about a month later, Windows Vista was released, and now that's
mostly what you'll get when you bring a consumer PC home from the store
or order one online. It's different enough from XP that it's time to
revise the earlier column to take Vista's changes into account.

After having worked with at least two dozen new PCs with Vista, as well
as XP-to-Vista upgrades, here's the routine I've worked out when setting
up a new machine with Microsoft's latest operating system:

One thing the article mentions is using AVG. Maybe it's improved since
I last tried it.. but AVG missed viruses that F-Prot caught and
quarantined - which is why I went back to F-Prot on my PCs.

Nothing is perfect.

True.. but at least with F-Prot I'm getting "less *im*perfect".. ;)
