So, for work you bought by the *price metric* rather than the *software
metric*?

I would love to hear what the "sofware metric" is...
The *Task* one needs to do defines the *software* one needs to run to do
the task and after that, the *software* defines the platform. After that
you pick the best value in hardware which is not necessarily the *lowest
price* hardware. It's something my departed friend Don Crabb preached
incessantly to his corporate clients and individuals.

This computer will run 3 applications.. MS Office, MAS90 Accounting
Client, and a Java Web application. I don't think the computer I
bought is any more or less qualified by included software than any
other computer. The accounting software limits me to Windows, I did
not pick the lowest priced hardware, but the hardware which
represented the best value/performance. This seemed to be a much
better deal than any Apple offering, since it already included
Windows, and I would have to buy Office for either platform.
So how did I buy? I don't know but if I bought a Mac and parallels,
and Windows and Office, I got a feeling I would be in a lot deeper
than buying the Acer at a third of the price, and buying Office. And
for the hardware I got, $499.00 seems like quite the bargain...
Disagree?
Um, Where did I bring up Apple? You did. Acer is garbage. As for the
rest, only time will tell.

One usually gets what you pay for and it's my contention that while
parts get cheaper, there's also a point at which they really can't
anymore without cutting specs. When the price gets too good, perhaps
quality will suffer. It's the way of the OEM and their need to return
profit to shareholders rather than make the best product.

Time will tell, eh?

indeed, however, in my experience, which involves support around 60
sales rep on the road with laptop they really don't take care of,
Acer's have been holding up as good if not better than most... Dell's
in my experience have been the utter worst, while Toshiba's are
holding up about the same as Acer... pre-Lenovo labeled thinkbads were
a bust as well.

I know but Jim has his software-metric (lol) and hardware metric.
And if it's not Apple, it's "garbage." He's a disgrace to all Mac users. He's a fanatic. Fanatics are the scourge of humanity.
