Why cares when Joe Bloggs had it?

Because virus writers aren't going to release their malware until
there's a viable user base - after all, this is the Windinistas'
explanation for the absence of OS X viruses.

So until Vista achieves a substantial uptake it's unlikely we'll see
many, if any, Vista exploits.

Windows Vista was a *huge* target since Day 1, with all the
proclamations of improved security.

As I've said elsewhere, if in a couple of years' time there's still no
malware for Vista then excellent. We can place it in the "secure"
category, along with OS X and Linux.

I don't see it happening, though. We already see security holes for
Vista, it's only a matter of time before its market share is sufficient
to attract the real players in the malware community.

It's like the kid with the sign taped to his back "Kick Me".

And the people making real money out of Windows exploits couldn't care
less. Their target is the huge XP population, they're not going to
devote resources to a tiny subset of the Windows community.

Assuming Vista turns out to be as secure as alleged, we have to ask why
Microsoft didn't include these improvements back in 1991 with the
release of XP.

The very least Microsoft should have done was to give Vista away as a
free upgrade to XP, if only to go some little way to recompensing users
screwed with malware.
