the thing that makes that a poor analogy is the shear number of convenient
options to mcdonald's.

Many of comparable quality. Look across the street from any college. :)

there's also a huge number of convenient options that are of varying
quality.

And prices.

even at the same general prices, there's a huge number of convenient
options most places.

Such as?

....
Oh, McDonald's is not the "great evil" here... the education in the USA
about nutrition is pretty darn bad, our affluence and history of being so
wealthy plays a part, etc.

how is it an *educational* issue, when people SAY they want options
for healthier foods, but simply don't CHOOSE them. they obviously
KNOW they should eat healthy foods if they SAY they want them, eh?

That does not imply that they really understand the effect of nutrition or
understand what healthier options would be. Often people do not...

...>>
sorry, but google videos doesn't really represent what they have in
the stores, of what commercials are being shown. let's take a look at
mcdonald's us front page-http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa.html- 3 panes,
one w/ their corporate responsibility report and career opportunities,
one touting their 'archcard' and chipotle bbq snack wrap, and the last
advertising happy meal and a 'bag a mcmeal' to get nutritional
information. hardly an example of really trying to push the unhealthy
options on folks. ;D

There website is set up for people seeking info... it is not going to be the
same as their ads.

you don't think the website is meant as marketing as well? ;D

Sure it is - just not the same form. People seeking their website are, I
would guess, going to be more likely to be interested in how nutritional
their food is.

If I happen to catch on on TV I will let you know.
....
um, yeah, i mentioned high sodium, eh?

Half your sodium in one sandwich is more than just "high", it is pretty
outrageous.

not really- if you're eating a balanced diet overall. :D

Ah, if you largely avoid the use of sodium the rest of the day.

In any case, I quantified the "high".

and 4% of your Vitamin A, 10% of your C, and 8% of your calcium.

so?

It has little micronutrient value, or so it seems.

no ones' suggesting you should subsist on chicken sandwhichs
exclusively. :D

Of course not. So?

....
their also pushing healty options for the meal-

Such as?

fruit and yogurt parfait, apple dippers, fruit and walnut salad, some
other stuff...

Snack Size Fruit & Walnut Salad : filled with artificial colors and
flavors... though all in all not too bad. OK.

Apple dippers: the apple's seem OK - as you know I am a fan of Apples.. :),
but they do not tell you what the "dipper" part is! What other sauces and
dips do they leave out...

Fruit and Walnut salad: more artificial colors and flavors... but again not
too bad.

All in all they look OK... though the lack of "dipper" in the dippers makes
me wonder what they feel the need to hide!

Their "Honey Wheat Roll" is at least not all white...

i told you before, don't believe the hype about white bread. nothing
wrong with white bread.

It has less fiber, has trace minerals and micronutrients removed, etc.
Multiple medical groups have stated that whole-wheat bread is better for
you. What contrary info do you have?

oh, whole wheat bread is definately *better*, but there's nothing
wrong with white bread. worrying about trace minerals and such in
bread is silly, given the absolutely tiny amounts in bread to begin
with- you should be getting them from other parts of your diet.

And the fiber? The speed it converts to sugar? I prefer to generally eat
things that are good for me... not just not that bad for me. Of course, I
do that in moderation.

....
either you are assuming that this is the ONLY food you're eating, or
the issues you have with the food are laregly NOT nutritional- it's
POLITICAL

Incorrect: I make no such assumption, and my views on nutrition are not tied
to politics. Why would they be?

they should not be, but they are,

No, they are not.

because you mention things such as hormones used in raising beef, which is
widely accepted by the scientific community as being safe, as examples of why
it's not 'good.'

Sigh... do we need to look at the evidence that hormones and the like in
beef are not good? Why livestock raised in atrocious conditions reduces the
value of the food? Not sure I want to go that far into this in a discussion
of McDonald's not being good food when it comes to nutrition.. heck, the
best you have said for some of their food *you selected* is that it is not
bad.

it's somewhat analagous to your complaints about global warming and how people
ignore the consensus in the scientific community. :D

Show me the studies that look at the combined effects of multiple hormones,
antibiotics, pesticides, etc.
