Windows Vista fails to stimulate PC market

The release of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system
has, so far, failed to stimulate the PC market in a way many
would have hoped, a research director at Gartner has
claimed.

³Our market data suggests Vista has had very limited impact
on PC demand or replacement activity,² said George Shiffler,
research director for Gartner¹s Client Platforms Markets
Group.

³We don¹t see Vista having a significant effect on these
going forward unless Microsoft becomes much more aggressive
in its marketing efforts,² said Shiffler.

Microsoft to simplify downgrades from Vista to XP

Microsoft is simplifying the processes via which its
PC-maker partners will be able to provide ³downgrade² rights
from Windows Vista to Windows XP for their customers.

So far, at least, Vista does not seem like the raging success some thought
it might be.

For a large segment of the Windows audience (business, enterprise,
etc.), I'm sure Vista is an uninvited nuisance. They don't want change,
they just want a better, more secure and stable XP. All the gadgets and
eye candy, especially when accompanied with some compatibility issues,
add insult to injury.

Number one rule of marketing - Know your customer!

MS should never have tried to so forcefully shove their base off their
entrenched XP installations, but rather introed Vista to the bleeding
edgers and allowed for it to seep into the enterprise gradually.
