So, with Dell left in the dust, and Apple's market captilization
hitting a new record high on Monday of $108.2 billion, I'm looking
ahead to several new milestones:
Nokia is worth $117.32 billion
HP is worth $120.18 billion
IBM is worth $156.4 billion
and MSFT is at $291.88 billion.
I think Apple will pass up IBM sometime around February, when the
earnings reports for the first two quarters of iPhone sales are
available, and it becomes clear to Wall Street that there's no ceiling
in sight. As for passing up Microsoft, I'm sure it will happen, the
question is how much of it will be due to Apple growing, and how much
will be Microsoft shrinking.
My guess is that the longhorn debacle and the brain-drain they're
suffering under Ballmer's continued incompetent management will end up
costing Microsoft about 40% of their sales over the next three to four
years, with Apple and the Linux vendors splitting that business about
evenly.
