Given that the iPhone itself is not a cellphone, can anyone please tell
me what specific needs that it satisfies, i.e. what is it good for?

Nothing. I thought it was a cellphone though. Granted it's only available on the worst carrier but still. Can't it at least make phone calls? Looks pretty much worthless, clunky, and too big. Another dud from Crapple.

Maybe I have a skewed perspective, since I work from home so I have no need to carry the cellphone around on my belt all the time like most everyone else; I need a land line at home anyway; I have a long distance deal that allows me to make unlimited calls in the US and Canada for a reasonable flat rate; I can't get cellphone reception worth a shit inside my home; and I have a cellphone only in case of emergency when I'm in my car. ... All that said, when my agreement runs out and I'm once again entitled to a new cellphone at a discount price, I'm seriously thinking of getting an iPhone. ...
