Scratching my head at the Zune sales figures
So the Zune still has ? uh ? a bit of catching up to do. And Bach was
gracious enough to tell the Chronicle that Apple is a ³great company and a
worthy competitor.²
Competition is good; it keeps everyone on their toes
Thank goodness some journalists have a clue! Competition is an
engine for innovation. Much as the Zune sucks out loud, it is
still competition against everyone else, including Apple.
Therefore, it will help drive the market forward in new
innovations.
Also, it is astonishing listening to a Microsoft executive talk
about competition and seemingly actually meaning it. Microsoft
was founded as an EXPLOITIVE company, not a competitive company.
Exploitation is part of Bill Gates' personality, and he drove the
direction of the company. Now that he is stepping aside I
honestly am seeing the company improve and ever so slowly join
the real market place where they may actually contribute
something useful to a positive future in the computing industry.
Imagine that.
Next one to boot: Balmer. (I'll spare you the insulting
metaphors, much as he deserves them).

Fortune Magazine 11-29-05: What's your computer setup today?
Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been
equalled for ease of use, and I want my computer to be a tool,
not a challenge.
