I was just thinking the same thing about operating systems. Why bother with
two when one, Windows, will do?

For two simple reasons. First, I have several Windows applications
that I use for my business (worth 1000's of $$$), and short of buying
all new Mac versions of these applications, I still need a PC to run
them.

Which means you were foolish to have bought a Mac. Sorry but I saw nothing in your response supporting the need for a Mac and everything supporting continuation with Windows.

The second reason is that as much as people like to believe in perfect
compatibility between the Mac and the PC, there are still some cases
of incompatibility, such as in Word document formatting.

We call those people "Mactards" and you will find most of them in this forum.

I have had cases where page breaks went crazy when my client opened a file on his
PC...! I then worked on the PC virtual machine, and the result was
perfect. So, as much as I now hate it, I am still dependent to a
certain degree on my Windows.

I also use a Translation Memory program called Trados for my work, and
it does NOT have a Mac version. I cannot work without this
application..
