Yeah, I've been suspicious about the Apple TV. Don't really know what
its target group is. Obviously its people that use iTunes, but they
also need a HD-Ready TV and good network plumbing to the living room,
or buy more hardware from Apple (airport extreme 802.11n).
Actually, 802.11n can be had pretty cheaply. I bought a D-Link for $70 and it
works just fine with my AppleTV.
Sure, it's just an added cost the user might not have though about.
I've not bought one yet since I use a Mac mini for the same purpose,
only it can also play DVDs and watch and pause live TV and a whole lot
more.
But not in High-Definition, I'll wager.
Well, the Mac mini outputs 1080p but the DVD player obviously does
not. It can't really play 1080p source material, but 720p works like a
charm. Not that I have much such material. I use my PS3 and Xbox 360
to play Bluray and HD-DVD.
