Apple made a lot of money from iPods and PCs.

True, but the point (which you snipped) was that the majority of said
profits (56%), which reveals all of the claims that the iPod was the
majority as a lie.

Aren't you glad they changed the Mac into what used to be the Mac's rival?

They didn't change the mac into what used to be its rival, because the Mac
still runs OS X.

Oh I'm sorry you must not have read the news. Apple used to make computers
based on CPUs other than the x86 series from Intel.

Apple has changed CPU types a couple of time in Macs: to 32 bit then to PPC
then to Intel... so?

They used Power PC CPUs after switching from Motorolla 680x0 processors. This
separated them from the x86 computers. Now the x86 computers went on to becom
PCs as in "Mac vs. PC". Now Apple switched to x86 processors and are now PCs.

So to you the only thing that made a Mac a Mac was the fact it did *not*
have an x86 processor? It did not matter what they had as long as they were
not x86s? That is silly - defining something based on what it is not!

They are proprietary PCs. They can run the same OSes made for other PCs.

Yes, Macs can now run Windows more easily... though they have been able to
run Linux for years.

Now you might be *trying* to make the arguement that Apple is now using a new
CPU.

Yea an x86 based CPU. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nobody disagrees that Apple moved to x86... where the disagreement is in
your classification of a Mac as a Mac based on what it was not. That,
frankly, is absurd...

Sorry, but I'm on my 7th different different CPU inside an Apple box...one
more CPU is not a big deal: more capabilities is what is matters.

There's where you're wrong. I already explained why.

To not accept your rather silly definition does not make one "wrong".

As for Microsoft, they're making much more than Apple is.
Apple may never reach the profits of Microsoft.

Currently true, but never say never. In comparison to Apple's performance,
the amount that MS is making is not commensurate with their market position -
- they're comparatively getting their asses whipped. Sure, it doesn't mean
the end of the company or anything like that, but it telegraphs momentum.

Actually they're making record profits but since your message was posted
before this was known, I'll let you off the hook.

They can make record profits but *still* not be making what would be
"commensurate with their market position"

As a result, here's the Microsoft flagship product, MS-Vasa
(with apologies to Sandman):

I think you meant to post something about Vista and not a ship. Check this
link out. It really makes those who lambasted Vista's "poor sales" look like
complete idiots.

Apple wishes they had the market penetration of Windows.

Perhaps. Some people prefer to root for the underdog.

Not they don't, not when it comes to computer products. They will go wtih
popular over the underdog. Look at Windows and OS X. Both are good OSes and
very similar. Windows is more popular and people will not buy OS X to root for
the underdog. They will not buy a Mac to root for the underdog. I know some
people have the opinion that OS X is better but that's not a fact it's just an
opinion. The same goes for Windows. In fact to the average user, they don't
see much difference. To the people in the know, the differences are small.

The differences are actually still pretty big...

I notice that the Mac kook zealots always claim that
market share doesn't matter. However they
always brag about the iPods huge market share. Go figya.

Figure its because you don't really understand whats being said: the
profound difference between the PC market share and the MP3 market share is
that the former was through illegal monopoly actions, whereas the latter was
by full & open competition. Hence:

Windows did not get popular through illegal monopoly actions for two reasons.
Microsoft is not now, nor has it ever been a monopoly.

They are an effective monopoly.

The other reason is that Windows was massively popular long before the judge
even claimed they used monopolistic practices. In fact the major issue was the
free web browser. Now all OSes I see come with a free web browser. I guess
Apple copied Microsoft's model there. Microsoft didn't even have to stop
giving the browser away all they had to do is make it removable from the OS.
Now nobody gives a damn.

Do you deny MSs shady history?
