This is strictly analyzing the press release Microsoft made, which
means Microsoft invites it. It is obligatory that people knowledgable
about the industry consider what it means, and that is all anyone has
been doing.
Moreover, if you accept what you are told without considering it's
truth, you can be only a fool and a victim.

You are analyzing a Microsoft press release to avoid being a fool or a
victim? WTF???
No, you analyze everything you are told to avoid being a victim of the
people who make statements to convince you. I do not limit that to
Microsoft or computer industry issues; you have to use these skills.

A company you hate makes a statement about sales of a
product you don't use, and it's OBLIGATORY for you to consider what it
means?
No, a company I despise for good and specific reasons makes a statement
to sway others about a product that I do use and do not like at all.
It is obligatory for every reader of every statement to consider what
it means in order to place its meaning within their understanding of
the topic. In other words, if you read it, and you are going to take
some meaning from it, then you have to do the analysis of it. In grade
school, they call it 'decoding' now.

This is what I never will understand about the Maccie fellow
travelers. How are sales of Vista going to "victimize" you? How are
press releases about Vista sales going to "victimize" you?
Not ME; other people.
If I were thinking only of myself, I wouldn't be taking part in an
advocacy group. I am thinking about the other users, and about other
advocates, and trying to build clear ideas in our collective that we
can make a difference in the industry.
Isn't that a good idea?

Why, why,
why, do you guys care so much about what Microsoft says? What is the
source of the Vista obsession?
Like it or not, Microsoft, Windows, and Vista are primary in the
industry. There is NO WAY to have a discussion about choices and
technologies in the industry without considering them. How good would
an advocacy group be if it didn't consider the very biggest piece of
the whole industry?

You are taking your choice of computer
way too personally.
Who do you think it affects, if not the person of the user?

Why can't you use your Mac and be happy? Why
grind your teeth over Microsoft?
I do use my Mac happily. That is part of the point.
I also know that many millions of people use their computers and are
NOT happy. I know that many are knowing and unknowing victims of bad
behavior by corporations and by individuals. I know that the products
they use could be, and should be, better than they are.
How can I _not_ try to help them see another way, if I think it will
improve their lives?

Let me try it this way:
I know I have enough money, food, possessions. I know people near me do
not. If I give some of my stuff to them, would you argue that I have no
motivation, and have done a bad thing?
