Screen sideways in XP

I recently talked about how, in XP, there is a common feature that allows
the screen orientation to change... this can be cool in some settings but
can also be problematic being that this setting effects not just the account
it is set in but also the login screen and, though I had no tested it at the
time, other users. Screen settings effect not just the account they are set
in but the whole computer.
One person told me that OS X worked the same way, at least on newer machines
(with a different video setting that could make it hard to use the
computer)... but even he predicted that when I tested it I would not find
what he claimed and he has since backed off and insists he did not mean what
he said... that he merely meant that video settings stay persistent between
logins. Well, no kidding! LOL! Nobody has said otherwise... still, other
than the trolling of this person based on his humiliation and ever-present
hatred, that is pretty much settled, even he now realizes his claims about
OS X acting like the situation I described on XP was not accurate.
Another complaint I heard was that what I described was not a part of the XP
experience because it was dependant on hardware and drivers. Well, *of
course* it is dependant on drivers and correct hardware - that has not been
in question. Being that it is a feature on many machines even from such big
names as Dell, I would say that it is clearly a common part of the
experience of using a machine with XP (though many people never find or use
the feature!). A driver to alter orientation is even provided by MS itself
in some versions of Windows!
So how common are problems with this feature that is often present in XP? I
decided to do a quick Google search: [screen sideways XP login]. Clearly I
am not the first one to note this problem! Some examples from that search:
-----
This is a feature in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Which
makes sense. But it looks like Intel copied the keystroke
for the same ³feature² in their video card drivers. I can¹t
think of a good reason why I would need an always-on
keystroke for this on a desktop PC.

A friend of mine called me today and said when she a book
down on top of the keyboard it turned the whole display of
her windows screen sideways. She can't figure out how to get
this back to normal. She is using XP home edition and from
what it sounds like, even when she reboots it still comes
out sideways. While the PC is posting the display is fine,
but once windows boots, its all sideways. What causes this?
How do you fix it? What button sequence did this in the
first place? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My granddaugter who is 6 did something to my computer and
now my screen is sideways. can anyone tell me what to do. it
is rotated to the left and I cannot get it back to normal

The kids were running a game called Zoo Tycoon, it crashed,
they pulled it out, and now everything EXCEPT the game is
sideways. We put it back in, and while it doesn't run
properly, it is the only thing s far that isn't turned
exactly 90 degrees to the left.
We have Windows XP with updates and a HP 2.2 GZ, 256 MB PC

My 8 month old daughter was smacking my keyboard this
evening and somehow rotated my entire screen 90 degrees.
Everything is shifted, web pages, the desktop, and the task
bar. How do I correct this?

I was testing out an emulator "MAME" a friend gave me and
the game was filpped horizontally. I tried to flip the
display of the game in that programs display options and now
my whole computer from the Windows start up screen is now
sideways. I can't get it back to normal and I don't know
what to do. Please help ASAP. I need it back Thanks

Clearly this is not as uncommon on XP as some folks in CSMA want it to be.
