It's an improvement over XP, search is better, looks nice but not as
nice as OS X. Don't upgrade, you may have hardware or software that
won't play nicely, save your money for when you buy a new machine, by
which time they'll probably have sorted out quite a few of the bugs.

I fail to see how these conclusions support Snits assertion that Vistas
completeness is along the lines of OS X 10.0 or 10.1.

Vista is ahead of 10.0, which was - really - just a big public beta as far
as I am concerned... but maybe around 10.1. Not sure how you measure such
things... but Vista clearly has a number of rough edges to be worked out.

Such as?

Companies shipping it with drivers that do not work with the printers that
are also sold with it, annoying security dialogs, slow deletions of files (I
have posted screen shots), poorly done transparencies where you need text to
glow, RSS issues, very high hardware requirements, non-realtime indexing for
searches, poor support even from MS software, etc.

ie - much the same as everyone else is saying.

Windows XP is a really good operating system so I see little reason to
upgrade to it. But for those buying a new computer it makes sense to get
Vista instead of XP (barring any special needs which would prohibit it).

Special needs... likes printing or using your older software. :)

Just like on OS X. Or are you going to go on record stating that no
soft/hardware updates were needed for new versions of OS X?

Of course not... though I do not know of *anyone* who has bought a Mac and a
printer at the same time only to find that the printer does not have the
right drivers... I have seen that with printers and even internal DVD drives
on Windows.

? The tilde in an OS X path does *not* mean "the hard drive only"
? Things which are not the same are not "identical"
? The word "ouch" is not a sure sign of agreement.
