IIRC the main reason I ridiculed the Windows command line back in the

Isn't the same true with OSX? It's just BSD with a mac-like GUI bolted
on top of it? :)

Of course, this one is more "mac-like" than the DOS one :)

Mac OS up to OS X did not even have a command line. Now, with OS X
the UNIX command line (AKA Terminal) has become a way of repairing
numerous issues by hacking files that the OS X system folder that is
off limits to the normal Mac user. The commands needed are as cryptic
and obscure and the old DOS commands in Windows.

Hmm.. how often have I needed to do this since I switched to OS X...?
I can't remember ever having done this even once.

Of course. My father is, like me, a Mac users since 1984 and has never
ever used the command line. Switching to OSX changed nothing for him
in this regard. He changed full-time to OSX in 10.2
