MooMan is just showing what an ignoramus he truly is. There ARE NO

It sounds authoritive - too bad you don't even know what you are

I know right. Good thing it's the internet. If a convict like George

God. I'd love to see you try it!

Isn't Pratt just a wonderful guy? I show him where he's laboring under a
misconception, and instead of thanking me, he goes right for the insults.
Enlightening conversationalist, he.

Who do you think you're kidding? You are a toothless, moth-eaten, broken
down, old hound. A paper Tiger. A man with a paper ***. You would
be
lucky to hold up for more than thirty seconds. You best bet would be to
throw a couple of feeble shots, and hope for some king of miracle. Some
advise: try to get laid -- that is, if you could even get it up. The
poisons seem to be building up in your system. What happens when you
orgasm? Do you get a puff of dust?

I wouldn't pay for the powder to blow either one of you up.
That being said, can anyone tell me the purpose of Apple TV? Just what
does it do that's worthwhile? Why would I want to pay essentially the
same for a DVD to download a show off of iTunes when I could just go
buy the DVD at a store and play it on my DVD player?
The same for the music. Ripping music onto the computer is strictly to
load it onto portable player where the expectations aren't that high.
Trying to play it on a decent stereo via anything is going to quickly
show the limitations of compressed music to all but the tone deaf.

I'm afraid that like so many things that you've taken an ignorant stand
against, it can't be explained to you, Mayor.

You can't think of anything either, eh?

Sorry, that's not what I mean. I've been reading your posts for the better
part of a decade now, and I've noticed that you tend to take negative stands
against products, technologies interests and hobbies without even TRYING to
understand anyone else's point of view or gathering the facts before you make
up your mind. Another thing that I've noticed about you is that once you
take a stand against something, nothing anyone can say or do will change your
mind. My above comment addresses that peculiarity of your personality.
There's really no use trying to explain the AppleTV box to you, Mayor,
because you seem to have already decided, without knowing anything about it,
that its worthless to you.

Seriously, I will concede that this sounds like the uber-geeks' wet
dream. They love to use their computers for everything. But how many
people is that really?

Like I said. You really don't understand what its for or how it works.

Most people are perfectly happy using a DVR from their cable or
satellite company and a DVD player.

This is a perfect example of what I said, above about you taking a negative
stand about something without even knowing what it does or how its used.
People's cable or satellite DVR has NOTHING to do with AppleTV. They are not
interchangeable on any level. A receiver's DVR does one thing: it records
incoming programs from the cable system or satellite dish for later playback.
Apple TV will not interface with a cable box or a satellite system. Instead,
it allows the user to view the digital photos stored on his computer on his
HDTV as a high-definition slide show. It also allows people to play their
iTunes music collection on their stereos, view Apple's large collection of HD
movie trailers, purchase TV shows and movies online and watch them on their
TV instead of on their computers and the reason I bought one: It allows me to
download raw video from my high-definition cam-corder to my Mac. Edit it in
iMovieHD, store the resultant "production" on my computer and play it back,
again in high-definition, on my TV. Ideally, I would burn the finished
"production" to DVD, but Blu-Ray/HD-DVD burners are still prohibitively
expensive and the Apple TV looked like a much cheaper way to present my
"home-grown" HD videos until such time that these HD writers come down in
price.
