Got home from a trip and found that my trusty 1999 Compaq Armada would
not run on the battery, nor was the battery taking a charge. This
machine is easily taken apart, so I removed the bottom of the case and
found that the screw holding the battery connector to the motherboard
had backed out, causing an open circuit. I tightened the screw and
the machine is back to normal. The whole process took about 15
minutes.
Try that with your MacBook, MacBook Pro or PowerBook!
Why would anyone need to try that? The screw holding the battery
connector to the motherboard SHOULDN'T have backed out in the first
place. Its called good design and quality control. Some products have
it, obviously your Compaq does not. Honestly, Tom, I think you're losing
it. Lemme set you staright here: product defects are NOT bragging points
no matter how easily corrected.
Not to mention that it shouldn't have backed out in the first place.
That might indicate something else is causing a vibration which backed
out a screw that wasn't installed properly. Then again heat can do those
things.
Maybe your armada isn't anywhere near the quality you think or maybe the
screw that's loose isn't with tommie trolls computer.
Oh boy here we have another kook member of the Cult of Mac. You see the
issue here is a user being able to easily open up his/her computer.
today, with margins being hammered in the PC world, OEM's may more go
for low-cost in manufacturing which can compromise ease of repair. Does
that matter to the OEM? Maybe, but then they stand to make some profit
on repairs which have a labor component. You don't repair PC's?desktops
or laptops free.
Now on
the older Armada Compaqs things are pretty easy to fix. Today's proprietary
computers are made so you have to take them back to the company to get it
fixed. I
Why don't you tell us why that's happened?
I'm going to clue you in to something you clueless nut. All laptops
that get use every day will have to be repaired at sometime in the future
after the warranty runs out.
Gosh, I NEVER would have thought of that? What ever made you think of
it? Do you think others may have thought of this? Cameras that get
heavy use need repair, but who would ever have thought that would extend
to computers, which are largly a box with electrons running around in
side. I guess electrons break. Where is Brian Green when you need him?
I know you can get extended warranty but since
most don't do that, let's leave that out.
You do? WOW, I'm sure everybody here will be impressed!
Even if nothing goes wrong, the HD
will need to be replaced, some laptop makers allow the home user to replace
the HD without voiding the warranty. Apple does not. They want to make you
pay thought the nose for just a simple upgrade of a HD or to repair
something as simple as a loose wire. Oh yes there will be lose things in an
Apple laptop that need to be tightened if you move it around a lot.
Golly, this is just such great information that will benefit all of
mankind. You know, if you try hard enough and go to their website, I'm
sure you could get one of those "voices of the people" spots on the new
CBS Evening News with KC. With such valuable information to share the
world could, well, be a place with working HD's in all laptops.
