The thought occurred to me the other day when I once again had to try
and give tech support down the phone to my parents . For a while now,
I¹ve been trying to persuade them to buy an iMac, if only to give myself
the occasional respite from having to deal the constant niggly issues on
their aging Windows XP laptop. As everybody knows, Mac don¹t tend to
have this anti-virus problem, or produce that bizarre error message,
they just work.

Then he should be more than willing to assist them with the purchase of
said Mac. Surely the reprieve from having to support a computer would be
worth the money to him. And he wouldn't even have to go with the $1,000
Mac. He could buy them a $599 Mini. Or is this just another Mac advocate
who is unwilling to put his money where his mouth is?
Furthermore I do not see a description of what the problem was that he
was trying to resolve. Was it hardware related? If so was it due to a
problem with the lack of integration between Windows and the PC?
Doubtful. Windows does an amazing job of working with a wide variety of
hardware. I'm running Windows 2000 on a Dell Pentium III 600MHz system
without so much as a hiccup. I've also had no problem with it on various
other systems. Even Peter can't attribute his parents issue to lack of
integration with the hardware. Would having a Microsoft PC really be
that advantageous?
Josh
Let's face it: His parents would have just as much trouble with an
iMac as they would with a PC.
The problem is not the PC or OS, it is THEIR "computer phobia", which
cannot be solved by simply throwing another computer or OS at them.
Many older folks are just having a problem with "future shock".
Some are able to resolve the issue, some are not.
Those who have trouble resolving the issue will continue to have
trouble, no matter what the computer or OS is. Those who have no
problems resolving it will be happy no matter what computer or OS they
have.
