Re: Why the hefty system requirements?

But the funny thing is, I would be willing to bet that almost half the
time a computer is in use, it is simply waiting for input from the
user!

Probably one of the most interesting things I have ever bought is a
Logitech G15 Gaming keyboard. I used it on my Intel Imac, and now that
I have sold that, I use it on my Dell. The LCD display on the keyboard
can show a lot of interesting stuff, such as CPU utilization and RAM
utilization.

What I have found it, while idle, the Mac used 0-2% of both CPU's.
While running World of Warcraft, Ventrilo, and Firefox, all
simultaniously, it used 50-60% of both CPU's, each fluctuating
independent of the other. When it needed to do I/O operation, such as
loading files, it would jump to 80-90% or so.
At Idle running Windows under bootcamp with 2GB Ram, it showed memory
at about 20%

On the Dell with a Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz, vs the Core Duo 2.0Ghz, I see
CPU utilization a bit higher, but consistantly near zero at idle. When
running World of Warcraft, Ventrilo, Firefox, AND NORTON ANTIVIRUS, I
see about 60-80% with spikes well into the 90's and maybe 100% during
I/O operation.

Memory usasge is a little higher, probably due to the fact that I am
running Norton on the Dell, and was running no Virus protection under
bootcamp.

So it is obvious to me that the core duo is stronger than a pentium D,
but not by a ton. also, both computers used a good portion, if not all
of the CPU capabilities when it needs them.

It would seem at idle, the computer need VERY little CPU power, and
will use about 400M of RAM if it is available.
