Do you really need to bootup from USB or just to access files from there?

I really need to boot from _some_ kind of external drive.

I checked the spec's again of the "Toshiba Satellite A105-S4134" that I
bought at Office Depot.

Apparently I lucked out after all, they do have Firewire on that model.

I did not spot it initially because they listed it by its formal spec',
namely "IEEE-1394" instead of "Firewire".

The prime job for this one and only PC in my stable of four Macs is for
major dictation use, using a high cost Windows XP Pro application named
"Dragon NaturallySpeaking Pro" version 9. (DNS for short)

Present cost of DNS Pro v9 is $838 if I recall correctly.
(up from $700 for previous older version 8)

For those who want to "fiddle" with voice-to-text, Nuance makes a $99
so-called "Standard" version, which can be had for $75 or less with
careful shopping.

I personally consider _that_ low cost Windows version to have higher
accuracy than iListen for the Mac.

DNS "Standard" runs great with BootCamp, BTW.

A small idea of how complex present day voice-to-text dictation usage
is, can be had by browsing the posts of users in the website below:

Mark-

Interesting. I had not given speech recognition much thought, I assumed that it probably did not work very well.
