More like "aesthetic" considerations. To my eyes, the OS X GUI is just TOO
PLAIN. Perhaps it's my Irish blood (we Celts love decorations. Ever seen
the Book of Kelts? Not quite what people nowadays would call a "Holy
Bible", it's so garishly-decorated.) Who knows why or how people form their
aesthetic tastes?

Hmmm, the main complaint I hear about OS X in that vain is that it is too
flashy... though I think much of Apple's flash serves a purpose. I do not
get that feeling from Windows (a talking dog to help me search... come on!)

Man, MacToids must REALLY like the PLAINEST of the PLAIN. I certainly couldn't
call the OS X "flashy" in any sense of the word.

Dashboard, the Genie effect, the cube effect for switching users, the
bouncing dock icons... some people call all that flash. It is, I suppose,
but it serves a purpose.

I really like the Genie effect, the cube effect, the dock icons
(sometimes), but I can easily do all that (and more) with WindowsFX in
XP.

But I like the COLORS of XP (but not necessarily the stock "Blue,
silver, and olive" windows). And with WindowBlinds, I can pretty much
make my desktop look like I want it, and there are thousands of visual
styles I can use, with almost any color I want on ANY control - the
Taskbar, menus, controls, etc.

But this is just not possible in OS X, even using haxxies.
At least WindowBlinds is produced for XP. If there were a similar app
for OS X, I would probably be more inclined to use OS X rather than
XP.

I respect creativity, style, and building a good tool.

Creativity and style are largely in the eyes (and the pocketbooks) of
the beholder, my friend. Attempting to claim better "creativity and
style" for OS X is not a little elitist.

Look at TimeMachine. Like it or hate it, there is no doubt it is creative
and stylistic... though some hate the style.

I happen to like the concept. Except, virtual desktops have been implemented
(albeit in third-party utilities, for the most part) in almost ALL OSes long
before Apple added them.

Even Linux has had virtual desktops for years.

I suspect Apple is adding them now to help pull over the Linux crowd... in
part, at least.

That's why I'm so poor: I never have been in the right place at the
right time, and with the right luck. I guess I'm always too busy
engaging myself with noneties to grab my opportunities when they come
along.

The same friend I speak of above used to call me the luckiest guy he ever
knew - I believe we, to a large extent - find and make out own luck. To an
extent... of course. A poor child in some third world nation simply does
not have the same access to "luck" that I do.

Until I became an adult, my entire family was pretty much raised by
the Catholic Church. They schooled us, clothed us, and many times,
fed us. My father was simply not very good at his family role. He
preferred running around on my poor mother, gambling, and spending all
his money in the local taverns.

Sorry to hear. I come from much more of a "Beaver Cleaver" background -
good family with no cheating, etc. Not that we were rich, we were not, but
I was very lucky there - and that is not a luck I made, I just had it.

She worked her fingers to the bone just to keep 7 children in clean
clothes, while "Daddy" was sleeping with the neighbor's wife.

I do not envy your childhood.

There are other things I like about OS X. But I just can't stand its
Desktop GUI. I tried for 2 years to like it, and just couldn't, no
matter how hard I tried. Its' just not for me. If it's for you, then
"go to, dude". I will stay with XP or soon, Vista, on my Apple Intel
PC, thanks to Apple.

No argument from me. I agree competition is good.

Then we agree, and that's all that matters.

Naw, I would not mind if we disagreed. Heck, life is boring when everyone
completely agrees. :)

Ok, if you wanna disagree, I'll agree with ya ;-}

Yes, but, um... damn!
