Using shrewd anti-logic, I flipped a coin on a page of various PCs in a

The coin landed on a Toshiba "Satellite" A105-S4134, so I hopped down
to Office Depot and picked it up.

Man, you must be some rich dude.

Yeah, rich.<g> More like stupid, here.

My sole income is $30 a day from a S/S pension, my bank account is fast
approaching zero.

Under-estimated how long I would live, so all my finances were geared
to me croaking when I was 65.

Big Mistake, am now 77 so looks like I will have to get a job at
Wal-Mart in order to stay off of welfare & pay the usual medical bills
that are associated with old age.

....or, could get a job as a security guard at an all-night gas station.

....or, could hire on as an Iraqi policeman.

Hmm, better yet, I could buy a murdercycle that goes 200mph, 'cause my
driver's license is still valid for MC use. I used to work for Rocket
Messinger service in Los Angeles for 6 years, and managed to survive
that without too many injuries.

200mph bikes are not all that difficult to find at fairly modest prices
nowadays. Even the sluggish BMW motorcycle has 167hp stock.

Back to computers -

Want to thank you for those detailed posts, they really help.

Although I am a die-hard Mac guy, I am going to make a concerted
attempt to give this PC box a fair shake, going in as unbiased as
possible.

Only wish there was a "main" PC NG out there, so I could keep any
questions I have out of this NG, for obvious reasons.

Try news://microsoft.public.windowsxp.*
or
news://microsoft.public.windows.vista.*

Many good newsgroups for XP information in those, also many experts
post there. Don't forget, tho, since many hobbyists use XP, many
stupid posts are made there, also.

But on the plus side, there will not be as many arguments as there are
in c.s.m.a, since Wintel users tend to be a democratic lot.

Yeah I noticed that.
What is needed is a NG that caters to cross-platform users.

4) Firewire 400 and 800

That will be fairly hard to find, since Firewire is not a normal
Wintel option. Wintels usually use USB.

I think I lucked-out there, the spec's state that there is a RJ-45 port
for LAN, and they list USB seperately in the spec's, so I assume that
the RJ-45 jack is used for Firewire 400.

Being video shares the ram on that model, I assume they mean that the
added ram will go mainly for video uses.

Anyhow, I intend to max the ram out, disclaimer or no disclaimer.

The "sweet spot" for PCs with XP Pro is 2GB. Any more, and any
expected performance gains don't materialize.

Okay, that will save me money, although I can't help but wonder why
they list 4GB as an option, if it will not be used.

Sales & marketing ploy, I assume.

Thanks again for the links to the Windows NGs.
