Too bad I can't replace my 160GB internal SATA HD with an internal

The only real reason I could see for wanting to do that is because you
happen to have the larger IDE drive lying around. If you have to go
buy a 250GB drive today, there's typically less than a $10 price
difference between SATA and EIDE.
My recommendation would be to go buy a coolgear external drive chasis
(Firewire/USB2) with the removable tray, spend 5 minutes to install
your (existing) EIDE drive on that, use it to backup your system, then
pull the tray and store it remotely. Buy a second tray ($<20) and get
another EIDE to have a redundent backup for next month.
If you want to turnkey it, I need to pick up a couple of trays for
mine, so I need to put in an order; I can put together what you
have/want/need for actual costs+10% for you, although its not really
that hard to do.
