"The Dell is clearly more expensive, although you can knock off $100 - $200 thanks to the bundled LCD (unfortunately Dell gives you $0 credit if you remove the monitor from your order). Look at that, cheaper than home built.
Sort of. It assumes that you:
A) Need every feature provided by the Mac Pro.
B) Aren't willing to settle for a 'good enough' case/PSU.
C) Will run Windows instead of GNU/Linux, which seems like a bad choice for a 'quad core' workstation (given that Windows doesn't scale well even to dual cores, let alone quad cores).
