Actually, that's not true - and never has been. There have *always* been "debug" versions of Windows, but they are only available to MSDN subscribers (like where I work), and are *never* released to the general public.
The "debug code is in the betas and will be removed on RTM" is an urban myth.
Of course, performance can and will no doubt be improved between now and RTM, but it won't be because "the debug code has been removed".
Then you are saying that when they release the beta for testing that the debug code is already been removed. I can see how that can easily be done.
That's exactly what I'm saying. There has never been a "Windows Beta" that had debug code in it. Same for an OS X Beta, I'd wager.
The whole point of debug versions is for 3rd party devs to single step thru the OS code in the Visual Studio IDE, to determine if a bug is in the Windows code or in their own code - or, more likely, to see WTF a particular Windows API call is actually doing!
There would be no point in releasing it to users/testers. If you've ever seen the size and performance of a debug build of Windows, you know why!
Yep. Been there and seen how many files and how big they were when generated.

Where are we going?
And why am I in this handbasket?
