Did you ever hear of the Nobel prize? It was created by the Swede who
invented dynamite. How about Volvo? Surely you've heard of that
auto maker?
Or Saabs, which I've come to understand is considered to be a little
more "exotic" car for americans, where as Volvo tends to be more
"boring" (not that I think my S60 is boring in any way).
In America, Volvos are sold as "safety cars" and therefore tend to be
bought almost exclusively by the Birkenstock crowd of liberals and it is
Click and Clack once made the observation that they couldn't think of
anything else good to say about Volvo, so they built an andvertising
campaign around it's being a safe car. :-)
It worked too. Every lefty in the country yearns for a "safe" Volvo. I
mean its easier than actually learning how to drive, Isn't it? ;-)
the overwhelming car of choice for soccer moms everywhere. This
particular form of American liberalism seems to me to have two
cornerstones: Fear and Guilt. Most feel guilty because they are so
well-off, and tend to espouse causes that purport to benefit the
underprivileged (but not with their money, of course). What they aren't
guilty about, they fear: private gun ownership, their government, their
cars - especially their cars and theis is especially true of liberal
women. So they buy Volvos. Saabs are somewhat in that category, but not
as much. They're the male Birkenstock liberal's car of choice. Of
George, you need to get over this. It makes you sound like a fanatic.
Ever hear of parody? Exaggerate something in order to show how foolish
it is? Well, that's sort of what I'm doing here. But make no mistake,
the type of liberal that I'm parodying here actually does exist, I see
them all the time. They don't represent ALL liberals to be sure, but
there are, nonetheless, lot of them here on the Left Coast. And the part
about fear and guilt being the twin pillars upon which the liberal
platform is constructed is absolutely true.
