You get free what you already have and own.

How nice is that! Useless if you ask.

It's breaking Apple's lock on your music library. Nobody's surprised
you can't see the value of that.

But it's not breaking mindshare. Just as the PC/Windows has the
mindshare in terms of computers, iPod/ITMS has the mindshare with music
and to a lesser extent, video.

It's bringing freedom to the market. Apple no longer has a lock on
the music collection you acquired through their music store.

Yes they do. The Apple Music Store only works with iPod.

But M$ plan also makes it look as if Apple will stand still, but they
won't.

MS plans to bring hardware choice to music customers the same way they
did to computer buyers.

Of course you'd like nothing better than for iPods/ITMS to fall. It's
your style.

It would be your "style" as well, if you equally applied your
objections to monopoly and lock-in to proprietary formats to Apple the
way you apply them to Microsoft.

No, not at all. First, I don't want Apple to be in M$ position in the
marketplace. I want users to have choice. Does that mean I don't want
Apple to do better? Nope.

Apple is the "MS" of portable music players.

Folks have choice now. They can put tunes on any player. The problem is
some of the non-iPod devices don't work well, and/or provide a good
experience for the consumer, especially compared to the iPod + iTunes +
ITMS which is seamless. That's "seamless" experience is what has to be
beaten if anyone is to get some share. Then, there's mindshare.

That's just double talk. When Apple is criticized for forcing music
buyers to have iPods, you guys claim any player can be used. When
alternative players are suggested as competition to iPod, suddenly the
integration with the Apple Music Store becomes an overwhelming factor
in iPod's favor. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth
again.

There is nothing inherently bad of proprietary things so long as they
work right. There are lots of examples of stuff in this country that
have proprietary parts, or services. For you to pick on Apple comes from
your bias.

You have that back asswards, as usual Jim. Proprietary lock in and a
monopoly are good things to you as long as they're owned by Apple
Computer, Inc. Otherwise they're evil and horrible.

For you to be spatting out the word "bias" at anyone else is so ironic
it's hilarious.
