They were in competition with Intel machines.
No, they were built as an alternative to ALL OTHER COMPUTERS.
There were not built for the purpose of proving that Intel was not the
only processor that could be used -- Apple simply chose a different
processor for other reasons.
RIGHT!They were built as alternative operating system & hardware packages --
the specific chip architecture is a distantly separate issue!
They were built as computers to compete with whoever else built
personal computers.
So you can't pick just one aspect of all of those computers, or even a
common thing from them, and decide that is the thing that defined
either side.
Apple was building an alternative to EVERYTHING that the other makers
were building -- not just to Intel processors, not just to RS-232
ports, not just to boxy cases.
