Once again, gold-backed currency wouldn't help at all with increasing gas prices.
It would have if the Federal Reserve was not in existence.
Seeing that both are physical commodities and have value.
Look, you're really not making any sense here. What you seem to be saying is that the price of gold can't change reletive to the price of other commodities. This is obviously complete nonsense, and illustrates that you really haven't got a clue about this stuff, and I've probably been wasting my time.
No, with the FR in place, commodities like Gold and oil change due to the current political climate.
Please describe the political manipulation which is causing the price of oil to rise. Make specific note of how fiat money is necessary to this scheme.
WE have Mr. Bush to thank for that. Everybody that I know of points their finger to him for this ridiculous oil prices that were also tied to his foreign policies. Fiat money can be printed and printed and printed... because nothing needs to be accounted for anymore. If they could only print money according to how much gold was on hand, we wouldn't be in this mess. We'd even be in better shape if the Federal Reserve didn't exist.
And like Silver, prices can be manipulated. All that the FR has done is to put people and the country into perpetual debt because in order for money to circulate the government has to borrow it from them.
The federal reserve system does not require the government to borrow money and spend it into circulation;
That is where you are wrong. For every dollar put into circulation, the U.S. Government has to borrow that money and pay interest on it.
If you think the Federal Reserve system is run by the government, it isn't. It is private. All the banks are private. If they weren't private the workers would be getting their paychecks from the U.S. Treasury, which they don't.
any entity can do so. If anything, massive government borrowing tends to screw the system up, because it often means there's more money being borrowed (and therefore created) relative to the amount of wealth created, which causes inflation.
Moreover, just to reiterate, there's absolutely no reason the government couldn't go into debt with gold-backed money. And, in fact, the government *has* had more debt as a percentage of GPD in the past, with gold-backed currency.
It is easy to borrow beyond what is backed by gold. That is called real debt... but today's fiat money is not backed by anything and that is why the USD floats in value. The government can borrow as much as Congress votes for and does. To pay off either of the two debts still requires taxation of it citizens. Before the Federal Reserve system was enacted, we didn't have to pay any income taxes to pay off any government debts.
That is the whole point.
Yes, for now. But a system like this will eventually fail.

Only to people that have only lived in a paper money society does it make it look that way. If you've lived in a different society with different laws about how money is created, that view would be different.
What view would be very different? The general public barely noticed the transition.
That's the problem. The general public doesn't know the difference and really is expecting the government to handle the problem without really understanding how the system works.
The government is doing a fairly good job of it.

Where are we going?
And why am I in this handbasket?
