Thanks for the link, but my question included what happens with any
changes needed. Would an update break stuff? Is the hardware
compatibility strict or open? can ROM files supplant hardware ROM
transparently? How reliable is driver support?
What I'm getting at is whether this is really a practical and
transparent application or a hobbyist effort. That is the dividing line
between calling this a real solution for end users and something which
is merely possible, but too technical or difficult to recommend.

If for some reason they couldn't install it, they could always install
Unix or Linux with KDE or GNOME because it is very similar to OS X
I'm sorry, but that comparison is nothing short of clueless.
If you really think those have any similarity at all to OS X, then I
guess we've reached the end of any mutual understanding of design/UI.
