"The next time you her an alarming speech about
'global warming' on Earth Day, just remember
that the first Earth Day featured alarms about
the danger of a new Ice Age."
Thomas Sowell
As odd as it may seem, global warming could trigger a new Ice Age.
The temperatures in northern areas of the globe are moderated by warm
ocean currents that warm the air that passes over the continents.
England and the NW U.S. are two prime examples that would be much
colder without those warming ocean currents.
If the earth warms, the pattern of currents in the oceans would be
disrupted, even stopped in some cases. As the northern areas of the
continents grew colder, the polar ice would extend further south, and
it would trigger a cascading effect.
It didn't during the Medieval Warm Period when temperatures were even
higher than they're expected to reach now. Why would it now?
The simple fact is that climate has always varied. The variations that
we're seeing now fall easily within the normal range. The people
freaking out now are either atmospheric scientists grasping at all the
funding that they can stuff in their pockets and anti-capitalist exremists
looking to use it as an excuse to shut down Western economies.
Much like all the other DOOM!sayer episodes, this one is long on noise and
short on actual DOOM!.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of scientists, who actually study such
things, say you are wrong.

The people who disagree include NASA scientists, who don't gain
anything by saying global warming is occuring.
The consensus story is a Big Lie. There's a petition that nearly
20,000 scientists signed that disagrees with you.
Sorry to respond twice, but I Googled the petition. Here is the
Wikipedia entry on it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Petition
"Criticism
The petition and its covering letter have been criticised [1].
The text of the petition is often misrepresented by its proponents as,
for example, "over 17,000 scientists declare that global warming is a
lie with no scientific basis" [2] whereas the petition itself only
speaks of catastrophic warming. Further, the covering letter, written
in the style of a contribution to PNAS, sent with the petition was
strongly criticised as "designed to be deceptive by giving people the
impression that the article, which is full of half-truths, is a reprint
and has passed peer review," (Raymond Pierrehumbert, atmospheric
chemist at the University of Chicago). The National Academy of Sciences
issued a statement that the petition had nothing to do with them.
As with the Leipzig declaration, the qualifications of the signatories,
and their agreement with the stated contents have been questioned. The
Scientific American took a sample of signatories and reported
Scientific American took a random sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories
claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we
were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed
with the petition-one was an active climate researcher, two others
had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal
evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did
not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer
repeated messages. Crudely extrapolating, the petition supporters
include a core of about 200 climate researchers - a respectable
number, though rather a small fraction of the climatological
community."
As I've noted many times Wikipedia is something where anyone can post
or edit any existing post on any topic with no check. Its not an
authoritative source on anything.
And even if this is true we can note that the IPCC statement was
signed by a group who wandered in from a podiatry convention. How many
of those 5,000 are likewise not qualified?
But much like the defenders of the hockey stick need to pretend the
Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age never happened the leftie
extremists need to ignore that fact.
Why do you feel the need to insult those who disagree with you?
Because I've found that they're largely dishonest on this issue.
This is
the second post on this subject where you have done so. Heck, Even, GWB
has said global warming was a problem.
Stop the presses! A politician takes a popular stand on an issue. Why
do you think the GWB is some kind of benchmark for me?
