That wouldn't allow it to run Aero. You'd need a minimum of 1Ghz
processor for Aero, and I'd be sure that if one wanted some snappiness
to the GUI, you'll be wanting the best.

Well, since every PC sold in the last 5 years has been over 1Ghz, this
shouldn't be a problem, right?

Mike

I don't think Mike is capable of getting the point here.

But for everyone else: Vista is full of whizzy new stuff that eats CPU
cycles, RAM, VRAM and disk space like a fiend:

If you want speed with Vista, you want a fast CPU with at least 1 GB of
RAM.

If you want all the new graphics you want a DirectX 10 capable video
card, as Elizabot posted. And yes, finding a compatible card has so far
been a complicated process. Hopefully, now that the spec is out,
compatibility will simply be stamped on the box.

And don't neglect the hard drive space. Note how the spec says Vista
wants '15 GB' of space all to itself. That's a record breaking
requirement.

Or, if you want to buy XP all over again, with a new name printed on the
box, then stick with one of the older PC machines that Mike is prattling
on about.

IOW: To get the most out of Vista it requires the newest PC you can
afford.

Frederick Brooks: I happily use a Macintosh. It's not been equalled for ease
of use, and I want my computer to be a tool, not a challenge.
