How?

If you don't know that, then you really shouldn't be asking.
windows viruses: 114,000+ OS X viruses: 0
Speaks for itself.

This is, I think, a strong argument that Mac OS X *is not*
resistant to viruses or anything like that.

It isn't?? How could we tell?

If it *were*, Mac advocates would know all about it and
would tell us what Apple does right, or what Microsoft does
wrong, the produces these numbers. [1]

Very elementary. M$ isn't interested in security, just sales.
M$ actions caused the creation of Nortons AV, McAfee, and Grisoft.
Otherwise, they wouldn't exist.
What M$ does wrong, they could care less.
A monopoly breeds callousness without any incentives to fix any security problems in a hurry. When M$ gets a round tuit, they might fix it if they can increase their bottom line.

But they do not. They point to the much, much higher
incidence of malware on Windows, and leave it at
that.

And I've yet to encounter any malware on my Macs. That's why we leave it at that.

It must be something exogenous to the product itself;
it may be the Mac's very low marketshare, or perhaps
some charactaristics of the users who use Macs.

Or the fact that Unix is just quite a bit more difficult to intrude upon than Windows. It seems the wintrolls just can't get enough intestinal foritude to admit to this simple fact that Windows isn't Unix and has problems with security.

[1] Slightly inaccurate numbers, by the way. Mac advocates
routinely deny the reality of Mac OS X malware when it
is found; but it has happened (on rare occasions) for all
that.

Being pedantic near the 100,000 mark for windows and 0 for the mac is pretty pathetic.

Where are we going?
And why am I in this handbasket?
