That is always the implication about the claims of 'so much more
software,' but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Almost everyone uses the
same few software programs, and the place where that software
difference matters seems to be only in businesses where vertical tools
are used.

Not really - no games, no TurboTax, can't bring work home, etc. Linux
has the same problems.

would have been dead for a long time.
How do you figure that? The latest and greatest is XP, as far as the
world is concerned. Most people just got XP within the last 2 years.
greatest operating system choice is much less clearly anything with
Windows in the name. I wouldn't put it in the top ten.
I wonder where you got the idea that most people didn't buy XP in the
first few months when it came out?
For those of us who have been running XP since before it was releasedAgain -- the latest and greatest only of Windows versions. If you count
(betas and RCs), Vista is the latest and greatest, and will be available
soon enough. Some of us already have it (MSDN subscriptions are SO
nice!).
the preview as a product that is available now, and if you count the
preview as similar to whatever is eventually released.
