I just posted the article 'Lucent Sues Microsoft - No More 360s?' to
this group. I am motivated to ask the following...
QUESTIONS FOR ALL, even trolls!
Where should Microsoft bad news be posted? Here? In the Windows Advocacy
newsgroup?
Should Mac advocates post Microsoft bad news at all?
Dilemma: As a Mac user, since the first day I was introduced to
inter-networking (which was on a worldwide First Class network via a
bulletin board I belonged to and eventually worked for) I been inundated
with HATRED from Windows users. My original term for these hate-mongers
was 'PC Clown'. I even had a little image of a clown demon I would trade
around the net to represent them. Because of their non-stop hatred of
anything Macintosh I became what has been classified by these
self-proclaimed enemies as a 'Mac Zealot'. Better yet, I became a
prominent proponent of the rational approach to debunking/de-FUDing
anti-Mac attackers. Thus I became an accomplished soldier in the
computer warz. (They were never 'religious warz')
With time I refined my style to focus on Mac celebration mixed with
rational skepticism. Apple has never been perfect, we all live in the
Computer Stone Age, etc. I de-emphasized heeding the attacks of'trolls'.
Pummeling them with logic is childish fun and dirt easy but a 100% waste
of time. They have nothing to say, so why argue with an empty closed
mind?
But there is regularly terrific Microsoft bad news to cheer the weary
Mac soldier in the computer warz.
- Do Mac advocates want to read such news, like the 'Lucent Sues
Microsof't article?
- Do Mac advocates think it is fair play to post these factual, rational
articles over at comp.os.ms-windows.advocacy as well as, or instead of
comp.sys.mac.advocacy?
- Do anti-Mac trolls ever really care about anything besides berzerking?
- How would anti-Mac trolls feel if factual, rational anti-MS articles
were posted at the Windows advocacy newsgroup? Would it blow their
little minds? Would they be able to respond in kind, for a change? Could
they give rational replies to such posts? Would posting such articles
simply be preaching to the choir here at mac.advocacy and preaching to
the brain-dead over at ms-windows.advocacy?
- Or should the Mac advocate take the high road? What is the high road?
Not to post MS bad news at the Windows advocacy newsgroup? Not to post
MS bad news at all?
A good and trusted advocate in our group has spoken with me about this
subject, but I would like to gather some other opinions as well.
Feedback appreciated. If there is none, at least I brought this dilemma
up as a subject for personal consideration.
:-D
Often, the "bad news" of M$ and it's impact is heard far outside it's
own world. By that measure, information is just that, information and
doesn't hurt anything. FUD, misinformation and such, does.
What happens here is that no matter the facts, the Windiots think it's
the Mac users drinking their kool-aid and when Apple does something
neat, they think the same thing. IOW, Mac users can do no right in their
eyes save for dumping their Macs and purchasing a cheap, $399 Dell
running XP Home and of course put up with that which we now avoid with
security issues.
The Windiots here though avoid the notion that they drink their own
mind-altering elixir from Redmond and deviations of same from their own
breed.
The fact still remains, Mac users as a rule don't go into Windows Ng's
just to antogonize the Windows users because they like their platform.
We stay in our own advocacy NG and are happy with our choice of platform.
Many Mac users are forced to use Windows at work or in other places
where cost and other iissues intervene. So, news of what happens to the
Windows marketplace is again, nothing more than information that one can
take or leave, depending on it's relevance to you.
That however, burns the chromosomes of the Windiots here and they mutate
into things like our current crop. You note Mac users aren't upset and
such from bad news that happens wrt Apple and the Mac. it's taken in
stride, just like Windows stuff.
