Did you follow the link? <http://tinyurl.com/obost>

yawn. another post with lot's of words and NOTHING to so. hint: IRC
documentation has NEVER refered to screen name. Your wrong, be a man,
admit it and move on.
What do you mean by the "IRC documentation"? Is there only one particular
source you will accept? The link above points to many counter examples;
here are just a few:
IRC is an Internet standard.
http://www.kidlink.org/spanish/annual/ircguide.html
The KIDLINK IRC is a private network that is not connected to the other
"global IRC" systems like EFnet or the Undernet. The KIDLINK IRC is
only for registered youth aged 10 -15.

http://www.rpgamer.com/ircfaq.html
The word screen does not appear here.

http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/S/screen-name.html
This is old and innacurate.
http://openacs.org/irc/
again, no mention of the term screen name - and it links to a very
good primer on IRC http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/ircprimer.html which
again does not mention the term screen name - instead refering to Nicks
or Nicknames which is that IRC standard.

Seems you have little leg to stand on, yet here you are - again - demanding
you are right.
I AM right. I ran IRC servers for years. No one in the IRC community
used the term "screen name" before AOL users got on the net. It's
primarily an AOL term.
You need to see your words an my words, Tim.

Go back.
Follow what I wrote, what you wrote:

It began when....
Tim made a "remark" about 'Cureiux'

Tim: "...It's really funny that someone posting with a juvinile little
"handle" "nym" or whatever you
call that thing you put in the name field.."

Me "I think screen name is the correct word."

Then it hit the fan >>>------->

Tim: "Screen Name? Are you an AOLer? That would explain EVERYHING."

_Your challenge_

"I've NEVER heard the term outside of AOl.
Show me ONE IRC doc that uses the term Screen Name, just one? I'll wait."

See, I only wrote: "I think screen name is the correct word."
That's all I wrote.

(Do you want to stick with "nym"?)

See you accuse me of being an "AOLer" and claim:
Tim: "I've NEVER heard the term outside of AOl."

Then ask:
Tim: "Show me ONE IRC doc that uses the term Screen Name, just one?"

Tim, that was done.
Right away!
You were buried in FAQs from IRC's which use (now) the "term Screen Name".

_You bailed_
Now you revised your standard to: "used the term "screen name" before AOL".

Before AOL?
No Tim, not what you asked for.

You wrote
1. "I've NEVER heard the term outside of AOl."
2. "Show me ONE IRC doc that uses the term Screen Name, just one?"

Yeah, you were brought up to date on that and failed to concede.
Now your story is:: "No one in the IRC community used the term "screen
name" before AOL users got on the net."

My simple line:
"I think screen name is the correct word."

Nothing from either of us about "before AOL users got on the net."

You said:
1. "I've NEVER heard the term outside of AOl."
2. "Show me ONE IRC doc that uses the term Screen Name, just one?"

Michael

I like the way you "debate".

Is that a Sharpie in your pocket or are you just happy to see me..?

You clearly spell out exactly what happened

Sorry to interrupt..Isn't that
"being honest?"....
OK....

in
a way that leaves no *reasonable* room for disagreement

Well, Usenet is poor place to not tell the truth.
It's not too tough to find conflicting statements and hold them to the light.

- if anyone has a
question of the validity of your quotes they can look, but I have no reason
to doubt.

To remove any doubt I could include dates and times.

Foot stomping and invective whither when one's own words follow their strongest protest.

Tim has no leg to stand on here.

No, look at all the seasoned vets who have jumped to his defense.
- - - Wait, that was another group...it was me...
[Because I spoke the truth....]

That fact is very, very clear.

As clear as Tim's epitaph:

Screen name?
"I've NEVER heard the term outside of AOl." - - Tim Crowley
